Projects
Email Assignment
I learned a lot about the value of constructive criticism and clear communication in a work environment from this project. My experience proofreading and editing Ms. Shi's email taught me how to strike a balance between professionalism and a warm tone, making sure the message is both motivating and practical. Rewriting the email forced me to think about the viewpoint of the reader, which improved my ability to write brief messages. I also emphasized the value of preserving good working relationships by noting in my response to Ms. Shi the value of respect when giving a supervisor feedback. Overall, this practice improved my editing, business writing, and teamwork abilities.
Data Tracking Activity
I recorded my weekly iPhone usage time in hours from September 8th to the end of October in order to better understand my patterns and make progress on cutting back on screen time. My usage varied during this time, going up in weeks when I was actively using my phone less and down in weeks when I was spending more time on social media. The fluctuations demonstrated how readily outside variables, such as hectic schedules or downtime, affected my screen time. Through deliberate efforts like establishing app restrictions and going outside, I was able to successfully cut my iPhone usage by the end of October. This consistent drop is a result of my efforts to promote healthy lifestyle choices and strike a balance between technology use and other aspects of life.
Presentation
Collaborating as a group to finish the nonverbal communication presentation taught me the importance of effective communication, time management, and teamwork. In order to fulfill deadlines, we needed to give duties, exchange ideas, and maintain organization while working on the presentation. In order to accomplish a shared objective, I discovered how critical it is to actively listen, respect different viewpoints, and encourage one another's contributions. In the topic itself, the importance of nonverbal communication in business was highlighted. Gestures, posture, tone, and facial expressions frequently have a greater impact on how ideas are understood and relationships are formed than words. In professional contexts, being aware of and proficient at employing nonverbal clues can enhance communication, build trust, and guarantee clarity.
Feedback
I learned the value of helpful criticism and the meaning of attention to detail from reviewing a peer's work for both the email assignment and the data tracking project. By evaluating someone else's work, I was able to assess their approach honestly, which helped me pinpoint my own assignments' strong points and areas for development. I discovered how to give constructive criticism in a way that is both specific and encouraging, emphasizing specific recommendations over merely highlighting shortcomings. Getting feedback on my own work was equally beneficial since it pointed out areas I had missed and reaffirmed how crucial it is to view my assignments from a different angle.
